Hurricane Gustav: Social Media to Help You Help Others

    Saturday, August 30th, 2008

NPR new media man Andy Carvin launched a Ning site for information and services regarding http://gustav08.ning.com is up and running.

We want your help and ideas. It takes a network army to avoid future catastrophes like Katrina three years ago. Log in here and join the discussion and please tell your friends and contacts to add their input / services / requests / ideas.

Thanks. My fingers are crossed, but the current infrared satellite shot below looks terrifying — whether the storm comes ashore near New Orleans or elsewhere. Up to 100 people have already died as a result of the storm in the Caribbean. And Tropical Storm Hanna is not far behind in the Atlantic.

Now’s the time to prove the strength of social media circa August 2008.
